The core curriculum encompasses the ATTAIN courseware series, digital literacy curriculum, Unlimited Potential curriculum and the Microsoft IT Academy certification track courses.

ATTAIN Courseware Overview

This core curriculum for ATTAIN is aimed at providing academic, educational, vocational and occupational course series for training participants in program activities in the ATTAIN labs. Unlike other computer and education-based technology centers, ATTAIN is a fully-integrated network of advanced technology and information training labs across New York State, which offers interactive, computer-based educational and occupational courseware that are used to provide training to students either in a lecture-led or online self-paced format.

Through the strength of the Developmental courseware within the Academic Skills Series, ATTAIN labs across the state have been able to lay the foundation for basic Adult education in the fundamental areas of mathematic, writing, and reading. Extensively used in the community based ATTAIN labs, adults are now overcoming deficiencies in the fundamental areas through the use of the Developmental mathematics, writing, and reading interactive software, thereby eroding barriers to employment.

The employability series provided training on the soft skills that employer’s desire for prospective applicants to possess. In conjunction with the Occupational series courses, this series is used comprehensively throughout ATTAIN labs to complete adult workforce development training.

Life Skills Series

You Can Make It Happen

The You Can Make It Happen course is designed to help individuals get a sense of who they are. Which negative, positive experiences and relationships got them there, and which positive experiences and relationships could affect their future. They take stock of where they have arrived in their lives. They are urged to take control. Through a series of steps, they create a vision of the future they would like to reach, to develop realistic steps to get there, to analyze past and future actions, to establish schedules, and to persist in their quest for a better life.

Additional software applications provide access to technological skills not developed through ATTAIN courseware. Microsoft Office allows participants to master the Microsoft Suite through lessons and task. Steck-Vaughn provides GED students industry-leading software that assists instructors in preparing students for the GED test. ELLIS assists those who are learning English as a second language.

The depth and variety of occupational skills courseware have lead to construction trade internships for high school students at the Baden Street Settlement ATTAIN lab in Rochester. Downstate ATTAIN labs have provided customer service, office worker, and Introduction to Office Technology courses to Human Resources Administration (HRA) and Workforce Education Program (WEP) individuals preparing themselves for employment. The Niagara Falls ATTAIN Lab has collaborated with The Memorial Medical Center and BOCES to offer Pre-Certified nursing assistant training utilizing the nursing assistant courseware from the lab.
